1940's Era Ball

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas at the Sixth Annual 1940’s & 50’s White Christmas Ball

Music, dancing, and nostalgia from a bygone era will surprise and delight holiday revelers.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver will be transformed to look like a scene right out of Irving Berlin’s classic holiday film for the 1940’s & 50’s White Christmas Ball. Celebrating its sixth year, the large-scale charity ball will spark the imagination of 3,000 plus guests with a magical holiday party straight out of the 1940’s. Guests will enjoy live music, costumes, reenactments of classic holiday films, sleigh rides, food, drinks, and dancing. The annual sell-out event raises money for the Wounded Warriors Project and the Spirit of Flight Center Colorado.

With a canopy of lights, Christmas trees, and tinsel, the 1940’s & 50’s White Christmas Ball will feature big band music from the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, the Hot Tomatoes, and Christmas carols from the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. Additional entertainment will include Marilyn Monroe, and Sammy Davis Jr. impersonators frominternational renowned shows including Vegas's hot show “The Rat Pack is Back”; reenactments of “White Christmas,” an “It’s a Wonderful Life” Radio Show; and pictures with Santa. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle and dance among classic cars, WWII planes, props and lights from old movie sets, and take a sleigh ride. The evening’s entertainment will also include Blue Stocking Burly Q, swing dance demonstrations and lessons, and a dance contest.

“The Christmas Ball has become a special holiday tradition,” stated creator Khyentse James. “We aim to transport our guests back to a time when Bing Crosby’s rendition of favorite Christmas carols would crackle over the record player. We want our guests to feel as though they have stepped onto the set of ‘White Christmas’ and help them rediscover the joy and wonder from Christmases past.”

The 1940’s & 50’s White Christmas Ball is one of two annual charity events held by the 1940’s Ball celebrating “The Greatest Generation.” The 1940’s WWII Era Ball, a 1940’s USO style event, is held annually each summer at the Boulder Airport. Since the events began in 2008, more than $53,000 in event net proceeds have been donated to charities including the Wounded Warriors Project and the Spirit of Flight Center Colorado.

Guests and VIPs may arrive beginning at 4 p.m. for this year’s 1940’s & 50’s White Christmas Ball on Saturday, Dec. 5, for free swing dance lessons with 23Skidoo. Doors will open for general admission at 5 p.m. with a red carpet paparazzi arrival. Music, dancing, and revelry will continue until 1 a.m. Tickets, photos, costume inspiration, and more information are available online at www.1940sball.org.
